Since you've already distinguished memory from history here, I have one that may or may not have been the summer of '68: I was a kid, but remember you and some of your college friends sitting around our parents' dining room table, and one guy asked you, in what seemed like all seriousness, "so Sue, what are you going to do after the revolution?" Even as a kid, that statement seemed a bit out of touch to me. I've lived with a strong sense of skepticism about utopias ever since.

  2. As you know, I was not at all political then (or, I guess, now). I was working at American National Bank and going to night classes in a quonset hut at Cleveland State, thinking about getting married. I can still remember the peculiar blue of the uniform I had to wear at the bank--a kind of sickly blue.
